Critic Reviews

“It’s rare to have new entrants into Hermitage, as the hill is divided up pretty tightly between the big names, so it’s great to see Maison Les Alexandrins bottling a wine here. And although they don’t own the vines, they did once belong to winemaker Guillaume Sorrel’s great grandfather. This is velvety in the mouth, with rich and dense aromatics. There’s such incredible density of flavour and texture - settle back and watch this develop over the next decade. This wine is the most expensive in the range, but you are getting serious complexity and ageing potential for the money.”

“The 2017 Hermitage from Maison Les Alexandrins instantly begins to impress with its seductive aromatics of ripe black cherries and black raspberries, which come together with spices and violets that are underlined by crushed stones and oak nuances. On the palate this is full-bodied, beautifully polished and velvety, with no hard-edges making for an absolutely plush, seamless mouthfeel. It displays excellent concentration with plenty of ripe dark fruit and spice flavors that continue to build up to the finish. While this is nothing short of delicious today, it should also evolve nicely with some short-term cellaring and could go on to age beautifully for well over a decade.”

“Inky ruby. Pungent dark berry preserve, floral pastille and olive scents are complemented by suggestions of woodsmoke, licorice and pipe tobacco. Round and expansive on the palate, offering appealingly sweet, mineral-accented blackberry, cherry and candied violet flavors and a bitter chocolate note. Closes chewy, smoky and impressively long, displaying lingering spiciness and youthfully firm tannins.”

“Suave, featuring dark fig and black currant puree flavors, mixed with loam, espresso cream and bittersweet cocoa notes. The lush finish has the cut for balance. Best from 2021 through 2030.”

About The Winery
Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins is the story of three friends combining the savoir-faire they learned from their parents and grandparents and the fruits from beautiful and historic terroirs. Nicolas Jaboulet, the 6th generation of a winegrowing family in Tain l’Hermitage, Guillaume Sorrel, son of Marc Sorrel of Domaine Sorrel in Hermitage, and Alexandre Caso, a specialist in the terroirs of the Northern Rhône, joined forces in 2012. They began working parcel by parcel in Crozes-Hermitage for the wines of Maison Nicolas Perrin. In 2015, the name was changed to Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins. Today, Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins produces Northern Rhône wines that are true and classic expressions of the region.
