“This has a very pure pink-grapefruit, pomegranate and red-cherry nose with a deeply spicy oak thread that sits well inside the fruit. Plenty of earth and some red flowers here, too. The palate has a very plush, energetic core of red-cherry, pinot noir fruit. A real statement of concentrated fruit. The tannins extrude smoothly and frame a long, juicy and fresh finish. Stunning pinot noir. Drink or hold.”

“A touch on the smoky-oaky side at first, the 2018 Premium Pinot Noir does show greater concentration and depth than the Estate bottling. It’s the lightest-bodied of the Pinots (12.6% alcohol), yet boasts ripe black cherries, herb and loam complexities, a solid core of fruit and terrific length on the silky finish.”
About The Winery
Bass Phillip, specialists of high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, was established in 1979 in the Southeastern corner of Australia. Bass Phillip is named after two men of pioneering spirit, foresight, and leadership in Australia: George Bass, an explorer of the Australian Coast, and Arthur Phillip, a British admiral who set up the first permanent European colony on the Australian continent in 1788. Founded by Phillip Jones, a Burgundy
lover who began his career in telecommunications and IT, Bass Phillip was the result of a meticulous search for the appropriate Australian region and organic techniques to develop Pinot Noir wines with depth and fine texture. Over the past 25 years, the Bass Phillip vineyards have grown to 14 hectares, much like a small Burgundy Domaine. Today, united with a singular mission to produce terroir-driven wines of purity, elegance, texture, and complexity, the winemaking and winegrowing team, led by JeanMarie Fourrier, are the stewards of Bass Phillip. Armed with passion and a combination of experience and youthful exuberance, the team crafts some of the finest expressions of Burgundian varieties in Australia.
