94 points, Wine Advocate
“Loimer’s Traisental 2019 Anning Gumpoldskirchen Pinot Noir is deep, intense and polished on the pure and elegant nose that is reminiscent of dark and ripe cherries, earth, forest floor and crushed, rather graveled stones. The palate is tight and tensioned, beautifully pure and finessed but most of all characterized by tightly woven tannins, fresh fruit and an incredibly vivacious stony structure. This is an impressive red wine from the first attack until the finish, which is long and muscular but moderate in power, zero in sweetness and impressive in style. Has Kamptal-based Fred Loimer become a top Austrian red wine maker in the end? This is somewhere between 93 and 94 points, but today is a 94-point day. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2022.“
About The Winery
Renowned Austrian winemaker Fred Loimer comes from a long-established Langenlois winegrowing family - where Fred was involved in winemaking from a young age. The Loimer winery resides on 70 hectares (172 acres) in Langenlois, the capital of the Kamptal winegrowing region of Austria, located in the northeast part of the country. In 1998 Fred took over the winery from his father and was ready to follow his path, outside of the traditional, long-standing ways. Two years later, he built a new winery, a minimalist black cube on a 150-year-old, hand-dug loess cellar in Langenlois - thus adding new spice to the charming local Kellergassen, or cellar streets. Within the Kamptal region, Fred Loimer has five vineyards (Loiserberg, Käferberg, Seeberg, Steinmassl, and Heiligenstein) where he grows Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Zweigelt used for his single varietal and blended wines. In 2006 the winery began its transition to practicing biodynamics. Eventually, Fred Loimer became one of the founding members of Respekt-Biodyn, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture in Austria. Today, the Loimer Winery is among one of the most respected Austrian wineries on the international stage.
