Critic Reviews

“A well-cut, light- to medium-bodied white, with a snappy tang of salinity enmeshed with flavors of yellow melon, anise, dried apricot and Marcona almond. Long and mouthwatering on the petrol-laced finish. Drink now through 2027.”

“The 2017 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Vecchie Vigne from Umani Ronchi hails from their Casal di Serra vineyard, with forty-eight-year-old vines planted at 350 meters. It is quite restrained at first, slowly unfolding in the glass with a display of yellow flowers, young peach and hints of ginger. However, there’s a lifting mineral freshness here that pulls you closer to the glass, where savory herbs and hints of Indian spice can be found. This is still quite youthful and poised, yet also full of tension, like a bomb waiting to explode and pinching at the cheeks while revealing lime-infused apple and hints of pear. It’s already a beautiful expression of Verdicchio. However, a few years of cellaring should help the Vecchie Vigne unwind a bit and show more of its charm.”

“There’s certainly a lot here with dried citrus, fresh herbs and apricots, but also a touch of marzipan. Full-bodied and rich on the finish. A little overdone.”

About The Winery
The Umani Ronchi story is one of ancient vines, land, and people. It began more than half a century ago at Cupramontana, in the heart of Verdicchio Classico country, and has spread further. Today, Umani Ronchi is owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, who since 1959 have been making superb quality craft wines, coaxing the best out of the Verdicchio and Montepulciano grapes that find their finest expression in the Marche and Abruzzo regions. For over ten years, Umani Ronchi has been a member of the Istituto del Vino di Qualità - Grandi Marchi, which unites over nineteen of Italy’s greatest wine brands. Umani Ronchi continues to be family-run with Michele Bernetti at the helm, and his father, Massimo, acting as chair.
