"93 points. Thomas Morey worked with his father, Bernard, and has maintained some of his father’s practises in his own wines, having divided the family’s holdings with his brother, Vincent, after Bernard passed away in 2007. He does not add yeast to the fermentations, and he keeps the white wines on their lees without racking, which boosts their textural richness. In 2011, he began converting his vineyards to organic farming. This 2013 is a classical Chassagne, the toasty leesiness adding a satiating meatiness to the wine, as if to lend a little funk to the fresh orange citrus flavors. Spicy, creamy and downright beautiful even as it is all closed in as a youth, this needs four or five years in bottle to reach its full expression."

"(88-91) points. Subtle, pure nose offers pear and flowers. Precise and nicely balanced although not particularly fleshy, with an intriguing saline complexity to the white stone fruit and floral flavors. Still youthfully tight and firm on the finish, but without a phenolic edge. Half of these vines are more than 55 years of age, according to Morey. Like the village wine and the Macharelles, this wine was racked in the spring and Morey planned to bottle it prior to the 2014 harvest."
About The Winery
The history of the Morey family in Chassagne-Montrachet dates back to the middle of the 17th century. Claude Morey, a native of Paris l'Hôpital, a small commune of Saône-et-Loire lying some six miles from Chassagne-Montrachet, arrived in the village in 1643. He and his numerous descendants worked in the vineyards or as coopers. It wasn't until the end of the 19th century that vine growing became their principal activity. Since then, generation has followed generation, acquiring by inheritance or purchase, plots of vineyards or fallow land and passing these on to their descendants. Today, the domaine has evolved considerably from what it was in the days of Thomas Morey's grandparents. Thomas Morey belongs to the 10th generation of the Morey family. He grew up familiar with his grandparents' holdings and then worked for 12 years on that of his parents. In 2006, he and his wife Sylvie decided to set up their own domaine together. Thus the Thomas Morey domaine put its name to its first vintage in 2007, crafting elegant, lively, mineral, rich, silky and appealing wines ever since.
