"98 points. Only made in top vintages and a blend of roughly 60% (or more) Mourvèdre and the rest a mix of other permitted varieties, the 2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin is a cellar selection that always comes from the same plot of vines. A massive, powerful wine, with serious amounts of extract and concentration, it slowly gives up gamey, complex (and heavenly) notes of blueberry, blackberry, blood, licorice, garrigue and smoke. This flows to a full-bodied, layered and brilliantly textured effort that conceals its tannic spine with tons of fruit. It should start to hit its prime at about age 10 and have two to three decades of longevity. Drink 2017-2029+."

“A little moody and inexpressive on the nose, showing some liquorice and earth, blackberry fruit. Beginning to take on some spice notes but this is still in a truculent phase. Full, round and concentrated on the palate - explosively fruity, and high in alcohol, a little unbalanced. Currently feeling a little unfriendly, so give it a little longer before opening, until at least 2022. In the context of other 2011 Châteauneufs this is a very good wine, but I suspect will never really put on a smile like the vintages on either side.”

"There is a potential cuvée that might end up being labeled 2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin. As you can see my rating for this wine is probably one of the lower ratings for this estate, even though it is a brilliant wine given the vintage. The Hommage cuvèe was first made in 1989. At the time of my visit, the Perrins were still uncertain as to whether its evolution would justify a separate bottling. The wine displays considerable tannin, and is full-bodied with Mourvèdres meaty, blood-like component intermixed with blue fruits, tree bark and porcini mushrooms. While dense it is certainly not at the level of the greatest vintages of Hommage to date."
About The Winery
The first evidence of Château de Beaucastel as it exists today is in the sixteenth century. In 1909, Pierre Traminer bought the estate and then transferred it to his son-in-law Pierre Perrin, a scientist who further developed Beaucastel. His son, Jacques, continued his father’s efforts until 1978 and today, the torch is carried by Jacques’ sons, Jean-Pierre and François. They are joined by the fifth generation of Perrins—Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu, and César.
The vineyards of Château de Beaucastel are located on historic land where each of the 13 approved grapes varietals of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation are planted. The art of blending these 13 grapes has been passed down from one generation to the next. Beaucastel is, first of all, a family story, the story of Famille Perrin. Their main strength is being able to blend the talents of each family member to run the wine estate under common values: absolute respect for land and terroir; biodynamic culture as a philosophy of life; and the research of truth, balance, and elegance.
