“Lively red color. Exceptionally perfumed nose reminds of red fruits, menthol, coffee and fresh herbs. Dense and fresh with flavors closely echoing the aromas. Boasts outstanding acid-fruit-tannin balance and a silky-sweet mouthfeel; I tasted two different bottles just to be sure, and based at least on what I tasted, this Rosso is a real knockout, in fact one of the very best from the 2018 vintage.”

“Caparzo’s 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is alluring and quite primary in its aromatics, with a dark mix of herbal-laced blackberry, brown spices, and moist earth. On the palate, silky, pliant textures flesh out, as polished red and black fruits sweep across the senses in a sweet and sour expression, leaving a coating of zesty minerals and hints of fine tannin. The finish is long and spicy, enlivened by resonating acids and framed by hints of structure. This is already very easy to like, but with the stuffing to overdeliver for medium-term cellaring.”
About The Winery
The origins of the place named Caparzo are still unknown. According to some, the name is derived, as shown by ancient maps, from Ca' Pazzo; according to others, the term should derive from the Latin Caput Arsum, indicating 'a place touched by sun'. The history of Caparzo dates back to the end of the 1960s at the dawning of Brunello di Montalcino, when a group of friends, fond of Tuscany and of wine, purchased an old ruin with vineyards at Montalcino. The farm estate was renovated, modernized, and new vineyards were planted. In a short time, Caparzo made itself known in the Brunello market. In 1998, 30 years after the first rows of vines were planted, the farm estate came to a turning point when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased Caparzo. With the help of her son, Igino, and daughter, Alessandra, she immediately carried out her objective: combining tradition with innovation to create a high-quality wine that is the expression of an excellent territory.
