“Featuring 14% Cabernet Franc - a higher amount than usual - this Cabernet Sauvignon is “”nearly”” an estate wine, according to Gottfried Mocke. The more European of Boekenhoutskloof’s two releases, it has tarragon and graphite aromas, fine-grained tannins, red pepper, green herb, and blackcurrant flavors, and a fresh, acid-driven finish. The 80% new wood is very well integrated. 2024-30”

“An inviting nose of red and black currants, oolong, and green tobacco. Full-bodied with velvety tannins. Structured. Rather expressive, with an array of black fruit washing over the palate while remaining composed. Very good intensity and depth here. Long. Sustainable. Best after 2024.”

"The 2020 Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, predominantly composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc, delivers a profile characterized by succulent red fruit, underscored by oaky nuances and hints of cereal grains, along with notes of plum skin and cherry. This full-bodied wine offers a balanced palate, showcasing layers of complexity and ripe flavors. It is supported by well-balanced tannins and energetic acidity that is just finding its stride as the wine comes to a refined mineral-laced finish. This promises to pair excellently with various foods, and it will continue to evolve gracefully over the years. It aged for 22 months, with 80% of the aging occurring in new French oak barrels. Exactly 14,391 bottles were produced."
About The Winery
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, the farm's name means 'ravine of the Boekenhout' (pronounced Bookn-Howed). The Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making- the chairs on the wine label are a nod to this history.
In 1993 the farm and homestead were purchased and restored, and a new vineyard planting program was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon, and Viognier. Today, Marc Kent is the owner, chief winemaker, and driving force behind the dynamic farm. The wines produced here are certified sustainable by the Integrated Production of Wine and Boekenhoutskloof is a founding member of the Franschhoek Mountain Conservancy.
