Critic Reviews
94 points, James Suckling
“Aromas of blackcurrants, black cherries, suede and whole nutmeg. Full-bodied with fine, structured tannins. Broad shouldered but with elegant black fruit and a hint of oak laced in. Espresso, too. Layered and deep. Sustainable. Best after 2023.”

93 points, Vinous
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch has a little more delineation and precision than its Franschhoek counterpart, offering ebullient blackberry and briar mixed with a touch of dark chocolate. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with better structure and good density and grip toward the dark-chocolate- and espresso-tinged finish. A classy and quite sophisticated Cabernet.”

93 points, Wine Spectator
“Long and harmonious, this full-bodied red is concentrated and well-meshed, delivering creamy tannins that serve as a fine frame for flavors of crème de cassis, mocha, macerated raspberry and herbes de Provence, layered with a subtle underpinning of fresh, loamy earth. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2029.”

92+ points, Vinous
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Franschhoek is well defined on the nose, presenting blackberry, wild hedgerow and hints of black truffle intermingling with bell pepper aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins and fine acidity, quite austere toward the finish at the moment, yet fresh and simply needing bottle age. There is something almost Cabernet Franc about this blend, even though that variety comprises just 5% of the total. Still, this feels accomplished.”
About The Winery
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, the farm's name means 'ravine of the Boekenhout' (pronounced Bookn-Howed). The Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making- the chairs on the wine label are a nod to this history.

In 1993 the farm and homestead were purchased and restored, and a new vineyard planting program was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon, and Viognier. Today, Marc Kent is the owner, chief winemaker, and driving force behind the dynamic farm. The wines produced here are certified sustainable by the Integrated Production of Wine and Boekenhoutskloof is a founding member of the Franschhoek Mountain Conservancy.
